RAJA AMPAT

WonderfulUnderwaterindonesia/WestPapua/RajaAmpat

Raja Ampat, which means “Four Kings”, is located in the West Papua province of eastern Indonesia. The ‘four kings’ are the islands Misool, Batanta, Waigeo and Salawati but the area is actually made up hundreds of islands, some inhabited and many not. Raja Ampat is remote and offers some of Indonesia’s most pristine reefs and breathtaking scenery.

Raja Ampat dive sites are all about diversity and abundance. Whether you’re looking to dive with pelagics or critters Raja Ampat will deliver.

Highlights include: large schools of fish, manta rays, reef sharks, wobbegong sharks, walking sharks, turtles, Spanish mackerel, tuna, barracudas, Trevally, pygmy sea horses, nudibranchs galore, ghost pipefish, cuttlefish, crustaceans and stunning pristine coral reefs.

Misool southern Raja Ampat

Underwater dive sites like Wagmab, Faraondi, Fiabacet, Boo, Wayil, Pele have beautiful coral reefs and are a wonderful combination of fish, hard and soft corals, sponges, nudibranchs and all kinds of invertebrates. Also, the Wobbegong shark and the Epaulette shark - the walking shark - both endemic to Raja Ampat. The greatest biodiversity in the world lives in Misool.

Central Raja Ampat : Mansuar Island and Dampier Strait

Enjoy one of the most exciting dives of your diving career. Immersed in a swirl of profusion of marine life, the sensation is to experience the coral reef, as it existed in a timeless Age, prior to human contact. This dive is framed by colorful soft corals, crinoids and sea fans, full of Anthias. Above them, large schools of jackfish, rainbow runner and fusiliers, with the occasional tuna approaching this "fish soup" in a race for subsistence. The effect is electrifying. Mansuar is also the best place in Raja Ampat to see giant mantas.

Northern Raja Ampat : Waigeo Island

Home to a commercial pearl farm, dive spots include Yellow Wall, Tunicate Wall, and Magic Log. The “Yellow Wall” is a memorable and energetic drift along a steep vertical descent. Once there the fish population is both diverse and abundant. North of Waigeo, the three atolls of Asia, Ayu and Bud are just waiting to be explored by adventurous divers, great walls literally covered with hard and soft corals, waiting to be discovered for scuba diving.

The Passage is a narrow channel that winds almost a mile, that connect the Kabui Bay with the Halmahera sea. You will have a exhilarating drift diving. The islands around Waigeo: Pulau Wofoh, Pulau Yanggefo, Pulau Yeben and Pulau Pef offer also great opportunities for diving.

Wayag Island

Wayag offers her superstructure for some of the best photos taken, literally, of Raja Ampat. Climbing the difficult slope, you are rewarded with a 360-degree view of the jungle and its surroundings, an outcrop of jungle-covered rocks in waters of every imaginable shade of turquoise and blue, the quintessence of "dream island."
